Commitment to Accessibility

At Selectabroker, we believe that the internet should be an accessible space for everyone, regardless of their circumstances or abilities. Our goal is to make our website available and usable by the broadest possible audience. We are fully committed to complying with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level, as established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

These guidelines help ensure that our content is accessible to individuals with a wide range of disabilities, including those who are blind, have motor impairments, visual impairments, cognitive disabilities, and others.

Accessibility Features

To achieve our accessibility goals, Selectabroker’s website employs several advanced technologies.

We provide an accessibility interface that allows users to customise the website’s user interface (UI) according to their specific needs. This feature makes it easier for individuals with different types of disabilities to navigate and interact with the site.

Additionally, our website is supported by an AI-based application that continuously monitors and optimises accessibility. This AI application adjusts the website’s HTML and functionality to ensure compatibility with screen readers used by blind users, and keyboard functions used by those with motor impairments. It also provides accurate image descriptions and extracts text from images using optical character recognition (OCR) technology.

Screen Reader and Keyboard Navigation

We have implemented ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes and made several behavioural changes to support screen reader users. As soon as a user with a screen reader accesses our site, they are prompted to activate the Screen Reader Profile, which enables them to navigate and operate the site efficiently.

Our system also runs a background process that thoroughly scans the website’s components to ensure ongoing compliance with accessibility standards. This process enhances the screen reader’s ability to interpret and announce various site elements, such as form labels, button roles, and menu items. The system also automatically provides alternative text for images and allows users to enable screen reader adjustments at any time with a simple keyboard shortcut (Alt+1).

Furthermore, our keyboard navigation optimisation allows users to browse the website using just the keyboard. This includes navigating through pages using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operating dropdown menus with arrow keys, closing them with the Esc key, and activating buttons and links with the Enter key. Users can also quickly access menus, headings, forms, buttons, and graphics using keyboard shortcuts like “M”, “H”, “F”, “B”, and “G”, respectively.

Disability Profiles Supported on Our Website

Our website supports several disability profiles to accommodate the specific needs of users:

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: This profile eliminates the risk of seizures by disabling flashing animations and risky colour schemes.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: Adjusts the website’s interface for users with visual impairments such as Cataracts, Glaucoma, Tunnel Vision, and more.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: Offers assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments like Dyslexia, Autism, and others to focus more effectively on the essential elements of the website.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: Helps users with ADHD and neurodevelopmental disorders by simplifying the site layout and reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: Configures the website for compatibility with screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack, ensuring that all content is accessible to blind users.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): Enables users with motor impairments to navigate the website using keyboard shortcuts and allows for seamless interaction with various website elements.

Additional UI and Readability Adjustments

To further enhance accessibility, we provide users with several UI customisation options:

  • Font Adjustments: Users can change font size, style, spacing, and alignment to improve readability.
  • Colour Adjustments: Users can select from various colour contrast profiles, such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome, to better suit their needs.
  • Animation Control: Users can disable animations, including videos, GIFs, and CSS transitions, to reduce potential triggers for epilepsy.
  • Content Highlighting: Users can highlight important elements such as links and titles or focus only on hovered or selected elements.
  • Audio Muting: Users can mute the entire website if they experience issues with automatic audio playback.

Browser and Assistive Technology Compatibility

Selectabroker aims to support a wide range of browsers and assistive technologies, ensuring that our website is accessible to as many users as possible. We have worked diligently to maintain compatibility with major browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera, and Microsoft Edge, as well as screen readers like JAWS and NVDA.

Continuous Improvement and Feedback

Despite our best efforts to ensure full accessibility, there may still be areas of our website that are not yet fully accessible or are in the process of being updated. We are continuously working to improve our accessibility features and welcome any feedback or suggestions. If you encounter any issues or have ideas for further enhancements, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us using the contact form below.
