The Youthful Suburb of Atwell

Atwell is a suburb that is located in the metropolitan area of Perth in Western Australia. It is situated approximately 20 kilometres south of Perth City and is located in the City of Cockburn. Lying on the Swan coastal plain, Atwell is sandwiched between the Darling scarp and the coast. Featuring primarily a flat terrain and vast natural wetlands, the area is bounded on the west by Tapper Road, to the east and south by Gibbs Road and to the north and west by Armadale Road and Kwinana Freeway respectively. Historically, the suburb of Atwell was inhabited by the Whadjuk Nyungar Aborigines, the area’s first inhabitants. European settlement of the area began in 1829. Later the region was part of a dairy operation owned by Ernest Atwell. Whilst most of the land was eventually sold off, much of the area was still operating as a dairy farm in the 1950s. Development of the Atwell suburb began in earnest in the 1990s. The development of several estates housing estates has expanded the opportunities for buying and selling real estate. The median age of the residents is 32 years old, with an average of three family members living in each household. Over 66% of the occupants were born and grew up in Australia. The average monthly loan amount for householders is just over $2,000 per month.
